The murine mesenchymal progenitor cell line, KS483, has been established to screen for novel biomaterials that can be used for bone and cartilage repair. Mesenchymal stem cells give rise to cells of the osteoblast, chondrocyte and adipocyte lineage. This means functional information can be derived for promising biomaterials in terms of monitoring select genes of interest, cell proliferation and differentiation using the KS483 cell line.
